About CitizenMe

Your data in your hands.

Personal data and AI in the hands of people

In a world where smartphones are ubiquitous; where more and more devices are becoming “smart” – everyone is a digital citizen. This means every action creates a data point. These data points are currently being harvested by other companies and in many cases, without your knowledge. This has to change.

We believe the future is an exciting one; Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Assistants, Virtual Reality (VR) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are advancing rapidly. They offer great new conveniences and benefits. However, this exciting new future cannot be realised if we, as digital citizens, are not in control.

CitizenMe aims to liberate your personal data and make AI accessible to everyone. This means putting data and the power of AI in the hands of people, not just organisations. Over time, this will become a valuable tool for everyone. It will support decision making, life management, health and personal development.

We are at the start of this journey. In 2017 we aim to unlock some of the value of your personal data. When data is centred around people it becomes so much more powerful. Sharing it with brands anonymously will produce financial value for you. Furthermore, your data will begin to unlock interesting personal insights that reveal more about your digital self. CitizenMe has been working in partnership with University of Cambridge Psychometric Centre and University of Sheffield Open Data Science Institute to create cutting edge AI that works on your behalf.

Welcome to CitizenMe. Empowering you with your data.

Our business model, your privacy

Our service is free to use. In many cases that would mean you are the product. This is not the case with CitizenMe. This is how we work:

you're in control-1

You're in control

CitizenMe is a place for you to take control of your data and discover what it says about you. All this is available for free. You are in control of your data. We do not sell it or use it for any other purpose.

your data-1

meData

If you choose to exchange your data with an organisation (green or red tiles) you also keep a copy. This data will be added to your account and will be used to create personalised (for you only) insights in the future. The more data you add the better the insights.

anonymised use-1

Anonymised use

For businesses, CitizenMe is a data analytics and market research platform. With this type of activity, your data always remains anonymised and aggregated. The data is only ever used for research purposes.

you earn, we earn-1

You earn, we earn

So we can continue to help you gain value from your personal data, we charge a transaction fee (to the brand – not you) for activities with cash rewards. If you like using CitizenMe you can support us by simply completing the green tiles in the app

The team

StJohn Deakins
CEO / Founder
StJohn Deakins

StJohn founded CitizenMe with the aim to take on the biggest challenge in the Information Age: helping digital citizens gain control of their digital identity. Personal data has meaning and value to everyone, but there is an absence of digital tools to help people realise its value. With CitizenMe, StJohn aims to fix that. With a depth of experience digitising and mobilising businesses, StJohn aims for positive change in the personal information economy. Oh… and he loves liquorice.

Data Innovation Director
Ryan Garner

Ryan has a strong background in insights and innovation, helping global brands shape products and services around real customer needs. Having spent most of his career consulting with businesses, he is now putting those ideas into practice at CitizenMe. Ryan loves reading speculative fiction, spending time with his kids and riding the emotional rollercoaster of being a Leicester City supporter.

Melih Birim
Lead Backend Developer
Melih Birim

With a background in Java, Javascript and ElasticSearch, Melih brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspective into his role as Lead Backend Developer. Melih studied Computer Science at Marmara University, and is fascinated with robotics and developing ways of empowering customers with Big Data.
Outside of work Melih’s biggest loves are spending time with his daughter, cooking, and vehicles; having an obsession for watching racing, go-karting, and self driving cars. (He dreams of the invention of self driving go-kart racing)

Lisa Matzi
UX/UI Lead
Lisa Matzi

Lisa is quickly dispelling the myths that beautiful user experiences cannot dovetail with privacy-first design thinking. At CitizenMe, she is breaking new ground and questioning common practices. Lisa’s won several design awards including ‘Best Book Design’ at the Leipzig Book Fair and a Joseph Binder Award. Her book “This is not a piece of me” is an analogue version of her digital self. Lisa loves thought-provoking, clever design concepts – oh and avocados.

Hadi Tok
Lead Android Developer & Scrum Lead
Hadi Tok

As scrum lead, Hadi has a breadth of knowledge and experience. He is our lead Android developer, but also has experience working on server-side Java development and building Windows Phone apps. Oh and he is currently learning iOS too. In his work, Hadi has a close attention to detail which is both surprising and playful. He lives in Istanbul after living in the US for four years studying Computer Science at the University of South Alabama. In his spare time Hadi loves playing Circassian songs on his treasured accordion.

Cedric Ferretti
Lead HTML/JS Developer
Cedric Ferretti

Cedric graduated top of the class at Sophia Antipolis University. We thought this was a great accolade but if you ask Cedric he considers it “unimportant”. Instead, Cedric is motivated by positive outcomes. He is excited about being at the forefront of making the internet a more human-centred domain. Born in France and working in London, Cedric has an eclectic set of interests. He loves the romanticism of Asian culture and thrash metal music.
