We’re proud to see The Economist suggest that our CitizenMe model should be used by TikTok to enable them to move away from Advertising.

The Economist points to our model of giving people fair value for their Data as a solution. This is absolutely correct. We believe that in future every smart digital platform will enable its users (that’s you and me) to fully participate in the value we create. Todays crude model of quietly making money from our “User Generated Content” will become unfashionable. Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snap and TikTok will evolve to share in the “User Generated Value” that the platforms create. Value includes cash but is far more than this. Sharing value also includes: sharing back personal insights about us that these platforms infer from our data; enabling us to better decisions; donating data and insights to causes we care about; introducing us to brands that we’ll certainly find useful; helping us all develop digital empathy fo others.

The foundation of this technology is available today (we have built it at CitizenMe!). The question is which platform will be brave – and smart – enough to change its model and get ahead of the pack before they are forced to?

StJohn Deakins

StJohn founded CitizenMe with the aim to take on the biggest challenge in the Information Age: helping digital citizens gain control of their digital identity. Personal data has meaning and value to everyone, but there is an absence of digital tools to help people realise its value. With CitizenMe, StJohn aims to fix that. With a depth of experience digitising and mobilising businesses, StJohn aims for positive change in the personal information economy. Oh… and he loves liquorice.
